Successfully Printing a Digital File

Successfully Printing a Digital File

There are really only three elements you need to provide for us to successfully print from your digital files:
  • Your page layout document
  • The fonts used in your document
  • Any graphics used in your document

Supported Applications

  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Adobe Indesign
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe PageMaker
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Corel Draw
  • Freehand
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Publisher
  • Microsoft Word
  • Quark XPress

    Other Applications

Files created using software platforms not listed may be or may not be accepted. Call Customer Service at (515) 243-8144 with questions.

    Supported Media

  • Print to our website using Adobe PDF JobReady
  • Send a File by Clicking Here...
  • CD's
  • DVD's

    Fonts

  • If you print your file to us using Adobe PDF JobReady, your fonts and graphics will be included automatically.
  • If you are saving your files to disk, please be sure to send copies of the fonts along with the original graphics used in your design. Remember, a postscript font consists of two files: a screen font and a printer font. Truetype fonts require only one file.

    Graphics

  • If you are creating a 4-color process job, please make sure that the scans and graphics are saved as CMYK.
  • If you are creating a job that uses Pantone colors please make sure that the scans and graphics are created with the Pantone color and not RGB or CMYK.
  • If you print your file to us via Adobe PDF JobReady, your graphics will automatically be included.
  • If saving your files to a disk, please be sure to include all graphics that are used in your project.

    Colors

  • Please be sure that your files color pallet only contains colors relevant to your design. This will help insure proper color separations.
  • When assigning color to art or text, please use Pantone color. You should also try to name your colors consistently in each of your linked graphics. To check yourself try printing out color separations to a laser printer.

    Miscellaneous

  • Please try to avoid sending "extra" files. Unnecessary art will only create confusion.
  • It is also helpful to include a directory of what is on your disk, this can be accomplished by choosing "Print Window" under file.

    Proofs

  • When sending on disks, please include an updated laser hardcopy proof at 100% of original size of the file to be printed. This provides us with an accurate copy of what the file is supposed to look like so we can check for text reflow, graphic updates, fonts, etc. If a proof is not included, we can not guarantee the finished product will be correct.
  • When printing to us using our website, please view and proof the online softproof to make sure that what was printed to us is what you were expecting. If so, please click the accept button to accept the proof. If the proof doesn't look right, please click the reject button, fix the error, and then try sending it again.

Please see the Short Answers to Digital Questions section of our website, in the dropdown list below, for more details on properly preparing page layout files, fonts, and graphics.
